Torremuelle – La Stupa
This is a pleasant uphill walk starting from Torremuelle train station. (I took a train to the start, there is a car park outside the station but parking looks very limited).
Taking the road on your left, get to the roundabout crossing the railway line and turn left. Crossover the main road and head into the wooded park – Parque Rústico Casablanca, which has olive groves and eucalyptus trees. Note there is very little shade on this route.
At the top end of the park you carry on straight up turning left at the next roundabout where there are numerous bougainvilleas in flowerpots.
Next you will pass the entrance to the Colomares castle (which is worth a visit. I can’t remember if the entrance is 2 or 3 euros).
Passing the castle you take a sharp right, where there is a hairpin bend and traffic can get congested. This is the steepest part of the route. Eventually you make your way through an urbanisation, then passing the sports field before finally arriving at the Stupa – The Buddhist Temple of Benalmádena. From here you have great panoramic views of Fuengirola and the coast.
I did this walk in two stages as we stopped off at the Butterfly Park (which is also worth a visit. Tickets cost 12 euros. Bear in mind the inside temperature is keep at 30 *C).
