Itinerary description
First day of a planned 8-day trek in the Queyras. Near to the church of Saint Sébastien in Ceillac, you can see the signpost of GR 58. At Le Villard (few chalets), the GR5 leaves the GR58, going left to col fromage. The GR58 continuing straight.
The way up to "Col des Estronques", is well defined by a series of zigzags. At the col, we went up to "Tête de Jacquette", a climb of around 100 m. From the summit, you can see beautiful sceneries and many peaks like the Monte Viso (3841 m), the Visolotto (3348 m) and le Grand Queyras (3114 m). From the "Tête de Jacquette", there is a trail that leads you to "the pointe des Marcelettes" (we didnt take it). After going back to the "Col des estronques", we went down to the "Aigue-Blanche valley" on a well-waymarked but eroded trail. There was still patches of snow but their crossing was not difficult. At the end of the long descent giving you amazing views, we crossed the "Pont de moulin" over the "River Aigue-Blanche". From there, another 200-m ascent will lead you to "Le Raux" then "Saint-Véran", the highest, continuously inhabited community in Europe.
