Itinerary description
The final day! After 7 amazing days in the Queyras, it is time to get back to Ceillac before leaving the region. We left the "Riou Vert" gîte d'étape and we started the ascent to "Col Bramousse". The ascent is long but not difficult. We passed by two hamlets: "les chalets de Bramousse" and "La terre noire", before arriving to "Col Bramousse". The GR 58 continues normally down from Col Bramousse to Ceillac on the ski slopes (not a beautiful section with ski-lifts on the way). It was still very early to finish the day and we have been told that there is a trail that goes from "Col Bramousse" to "Col Fromage" on the crest. We took a trail that leads to a nearby summit: Brunet summit 2561 m. The trail is beautiful but not well marked near the summit (probably not very used). From the summit, you can see a trail that follows the crest (La crête des Chambrettes).
The crest trail is not an easy one. Some parts are slippery and care should be taken there because a fall on either side of the crest may be fatal. I recommend this part only for confident hikers. Beginners should follow the normal GR 58 down from Col Bramousse.
This crest trail is one of the most beautiful parts of this tour. We reached "L'Observatoire" before continuing to "Col Fromage". This way, we did the 3 cols on this side above Ceillac: "Col des Estronques" on Day 1 and "Cols Bramousse/Fromage" on Day 8. From "Col Fromage", the descent is easy till we reached the hamlet "Le Villard", before arriving to Ceillac.
