Itinerary description

After a night stay at the excellent Rifugio Oberto Maroli where we had tasty food and the best views of Monte Rosa, we started our 8th day by climbing to the Monte Moro Pass (2853 m). Just above the Pass, The "madonna della nevi" statue (Madonna of snow) is "protecting" the pass. The trail around the pass was icy and we put our crampons on for a safer descent. The Mattmark lake which seems to be close, is not as close as it seems and you will have to walk for more than an hour to reach its south end. Here you will encounter lot of people hiking and walking around the lake. Walk at the east side of the lake for about 3 km till you reach the dam. Continue your way down on zigzags trails in the forest till you reach the river. Before reaching Saas Almagell, you will be walking next to the car road then you enter a fitness trail (Zurich Vitaparcours). Next to the bridge of Saas Almagell, there is a way up in the forest. You will be climbing to 1850m before going down to Saas Fee, an authentic swiss village. About 13 peaks of 4000 m encircle the village which is known as "The pearl of the Alps".
