Second day of acclimatization in Pangboche. On this second day our intention was to make a route up to Chukkung Ri, 5546 mts. Although the dawn was clear, the weather changed quickly, with snow and quite a lot of wind, we only climbed to the Chukkung viewpoint, at an altitude of 3040 m.
We begin by leaving the town through the Imja Valley upwards, always climbing gently, the path is quite comfortable. A couple of kms before arriving at Chukkung we passed a small stone house, nearby is a memorial to three great Polish mountaineers who lost their lives climbing Lhotse on its south face, the best known being Jerzy Kukuczka.
Arriving at the town of Chukkung and with an increasingly heavy snowfall, we already knew that we were going to have little chance of reaching the top of Chukkung Ri, although at least we started the climb to reach a beautiful viewpoint at 5030 m, take some photos and decide there whether to continue or not.
Upon reaching the viewpoint, words were left over, snowing, strong gusts of wind and low visibility. After the obligatory photos, we went down again to Chukkung and from there to Dingboche by the same way we went.
