THE ROUTE: We start from the parking lot, near the tiny jetty, where there are fenced enclosures for the cattle. We cross over a wooden bridge a mighty stream that nourishes the Stolsvatn with water.
Through a wide dirt track parallel to the lake we are entering the colorful landscape at the foot of the mountains. The pale greens, straw yellows, browns and reds contrast with a uniform blue of the waters of the lake.
We pass in front of some cabins that are now closed and that in summer are rented to travel these lands. The dirt track enters a zone of stones and then becomes a path that borders the waters.
The calm and tranquility of the place is thunderous, small earthen tongues enter the lake with bucolic and evocative cabins. In the serene waters of the lake the mountains and the blue sky are reflected with cotton clouds.
We rise by a small hill where the panoramic ones are extended. The lake has an elongated shape and in the center it curves to the right like a boomerang. In this area a peat bog that has a nice yellow color is formed.
We take it with calmness and the group disperses taking photographs to this beautiful environment surrounded by mountains. On the descent on the other side of the hill the landscape changes since we only have the vision of this part of the lake.
We enter a long peat bog parallel to the shore of the lake, these floodable strips are very careful because they contain microorganisms and lichens. In order not to step on them, they have installed two plank platforms that protect them.
Further on, the path separates the peat bog and the shores of the lake with new views backwards. Each time a boat passes, lines are formed enlisted in the waters that break the tranquility of the place.
We are getting closer to another undulation of the land where a group of wooden houses are located at the top. A fence of wooden posts joined with wires delimits the path that is now more stony.
We went up and down a bit to cross a metal bridge with wooden boards, a tumultuous torrent of white water in the rocky area that ends up entering its meltwater in Lake Stolsvtn.
On a hill we observe the location of the group of wooden houses. This is the mountain refuge, which is a tourist complex consisting of a farm, livestock school, cabins and a jetty.
For other wider platforms we forded the peat bog to reach the refuge and the set of houses. At the reception the guide specifies the time of return by boat and a surprise. Meanwhile, we observe the surroundings.
Then we went down to the jetty next to a picturesque cabin that fumes through its chimney. Inside they have prepared a snack with a kind of crepes, acid cheese and homemade jams. Delicious.
In the heat of the fire with a good cup of tea we have a snack, it was something we did not expect. From the inside of the cabin we make beautiful photos at the entrance door and a window open to the idyllic landscape.
Later they show us the animals of the farm school, now they only have goats and pigs, the cows have already taken them. The farmers have the obligation to provide some animals so that the children know the rural environment.
We are saying goodbye to the landscape that has dazzled us and the animals; the sun begins to fall and we have to return. We gathered at the jetty waiting for the pilot of the boat and giving the last looks.
We embark inside the small boat sheltered with an awning that will protect us from the air and sail through the waters of the lake. The landscape is filled with shadows while the sun is hiding.
The crossing has been short, we docked at the other jetty and return on foot to the parking lot. The sun's rays continue to hide and as we climb into the van we continue to take pictures of the golden and poetic sunset
The sunset continues to invade the landscape and we stop again to photograph the rosy sunset in the lakes and see the last golden rays of the sun behind the snowy mountains. It has been a delicious excursion.
