Itinerary description
There are a few versions of this walk on Wikiloc; a number starting in San Esteban. This one starts in the beautiful village of Tresviso and follows the PR 29 giving excellent views of the village as well as the Picos in general. The first challenge comes at Los Picayos where there is a little exposure but most is minimised by steel cables. The limestone spires are impressive and there are plenty of Griffin vultures to be seen in the air and high on the rocks. We saw a very rare Lamagier. The descent into San Esteban is delightful if a bit slippy at times. The mirador is great and you'll probably have it to yourself. The views are spectacular. Leaving the PR 29 and San Esteban the really hard work begins. The climb to the Collado Galabin is pleasant to begin with but soon becomes overgrown and on a hot day very hard work. Route finding after that is a little hit and miss and you will, doubtless, be relieved when you see the Cabañas de Tajadura. The last few kilometers are along the road but you'll be glad to stride out before a beer in the Bar.

Hi Mark, i would like to do this walk but can you do this walk whitout gps? I mean i dont see a path on the map. Or are there signs on the road that show you the way? I’m a little scared that if my phone does not work i will not find the way. And what do you mean by: “where there is a little exposure but most is minimised by steel cables”? Hope you can help me😄
I would be reluctant to do this without GPS unless you are a good map reader. Having said that the area where you may need one is where your phone is lightly to work. I've just recently started using the Wikiloc app which I think would be fine. This walk is tough. We did it when it was hot and the walk up the valley from San Esteban was gruelling. Exposure is where you could fall a long way. The steel cables give you some confidence as they act as a handrail.
An alternative is to walk down to the N621 from San Estaban and walk along it to Urdon and back up the famous path. The walk along this main road is not particularly pleasant, to say the least, but it is a small price to pay for a spectacular walk.
