Itinerary description

Spectacular hike you can easily complete in a day. Take private transport to Tuni. Walk along the side of the reservoir and start working your way up the valley. There are multiple ways to get over the ridge and into the valley in the other side (See Tuni - Botijlaca (2) for an alternative). This map shows the quickest and simplest way to do it. From there, it's all downhill until you get to the road at the Hydroelectric plant (Botijlaca). You will probably want private transport to pick you up from there, as it's a pretty dead road.

Final push to get over the pass. Some loose rocks, but it's pretty straight forward.

Did this route on May 22nd 2023. Was probably the most beautiful trail run of my life. Starting at Laguna Tuni, we ran next to some beautiful lakes, some frozen over we could skip rocks on. We saw many Alpacas. Then we started the relatively short, but challenging (at this altitude of 15

    ( oops pressed send)
14/15k feet. We continued up to a pass at 16k feet and stopped to take in all the snow capped mountains and 360 degree views.

The highlight for me was laguna llojnosa (not sure if that’s the right name?) a couple miles or so from the hydroelectric dam. It was just unreal. We stopped there for a bit. There was amazing single track next to a babbling brook that takes you down into a valley to appreciate the lake. I could go on, but it was an amazing run. Finishing in Botijlaca was great, we had previously arranged transportation out as it seems quite remote. It took us 45 to go to refugio casa blanca to stay for the next few days. Thanks for the route!

Really glad you enjoyed it. It’s one of my favorites. If you want any other recommendations, I have a few other ones that are similar, but on an even bigger scale.
