Se pueden ver diversos carteles advirtiendo "Never try to hike from the rim to the river and back in one day. Many who tried suffered serious illness or death".

Grand Canyon is a breathtaking place that makes you feel so humble. I think everyone should visit this place at least once in her life. It makes you feel so insignificant in space and in time.
Some of the best hikes in Grand Canyon are rim to rim, normally North rim to South rim. This one has some important logistics requirements because you need to go back to your car once you finish hiking. It can take you several hours to drive back because you have to go around the canyon.
Bright Angel and South Kaibab trails are the other two popular hikes. Both go all the way down to the Colorado river and come back same way. It is not recomended to go down the river and back up on the same day. you can read several signs saying "Never try to hike from the rim to the river and back in one day. Many who tried suffered serious illness or death".
In my opinion it's no big deal to go down an up on the same day but it's probably a good idea to have such warnings because a lot of people come here, some of them with quite poor level of fitness. Even though it's an easy hike we cannot forget that it goes down 1500 vertical meters and then you have to come up. In adition to that weather temperature can vary a lot from the rim to the river and from day to night. You could have over 30 degrees Celsius down the river in the middle of the day and be below 10 degrees Celsius on the rim once you finish the hike.
A great combination is to hike Bright Angel trail down the river and then come up on South Kaibab trail. This way you enjoy both tracks, you don't get bored on your way back and you also have the opportunity of crossing the Colorado river twice taking both bridges. Even though these tracks are not far appart the are quite different.
Bright Angel trail is more touristic and popular. Is quite wide and well maintained. Every few kilometers you have rest areas with toilets and water to drink. This track is greener, more humid and more varied scenery. You can even find a camp site (Indian gardens campground) and a litte river.
South Kaibab trail is also well marked but it's not as wide and you cannot find restrooms or even water. You will find less people on this side. The area is drier, more desertic and you usually walk under the sun. On the other hand you have amazing views. You will find hard to stop taking pictures. You will be able to see the Colorado river from many different points at different altitudes.
Once we finish the hike on the top of the South Kaibab trail we need to go back to the head of the Bright Angel trail where we left our car. There is a bus service every few minutes. First you take a bus to the visitor center and then you take another one to the Bright Angel Lodge where our car is waiting for us.
Dogs are not allowed on the trails.
I recomend you to take enough water for the way back on South Kaibab trail and also to get some warm clothes on your backpack for the time you are finished.

hola

Excellent trail for winter.
🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
