Itinerary description

This walk starts from the remote mountain village of Benimaurell, along a charming, winding country lane to near Fleix and then follows a beautifully engineered old “mozarabic” mule path, once one of the country’s main roads. The well-constructed path shows considerable engineering skills as it takes in its stride 3 descents and 3 ascents all of approximatly 300 meters. This circular walk takes about 4 1/2 hours. It is strenuous and as the name of the walk implies it is all stepped.
25% surfaced roads, 75% mule paths.

Did this walk for the first time on 7 November 19 accompanied by my wife and two friends who'd done it before. We're all in our 60s/70s and while it was quite challenging and tiring we managed it fine within 6 hours (including a couple of refereshment/snack stops), as we do hillwalks in teh Costa Blanca are at least once a week. It's a fantastic walk with spectacular vews/scenery. I was using the Wikiloc app for guidance but in truth this walk is so easy to follow we probably could have managed fine without it. Unfortunately, my phone battery died about 30 minites before the end of the walk so it did not track us all the way back to Benimaurell.
