Itinerary description

Bit difficult route. Sometines impossible to find a decent trail, so right underneath the windmills a little free climbing is needed to scale the rocky mountain there. Other than that a beatiful route

I had a glance over the route the memorise parts. Whilst jogging I miss counted the houses and went off East instead of West up the mountains. It was a very thick path and I'm covered in grazes. I'd estimate that due to this I shaved 2km off the route in exchange for a horrible path full of climbing. The rest of it was spot on. Lovely way to spend a Sunday morning!

    Thank you

Unfortunately, we couldn't get past the climbing part and had to turn back. It was impassable. We tried various other possible routes up but failed to find one as we found ourselves strung up in brambles and thickets. There was also one part where we couldn't find a gate and had to slither under a fence.

    So this trail was interesting…

WARNING, the entire trail is only for very experienced hikers / climbers

First you leave your car close to highway, close to garbage bins

Then you can walk up the road or you can take a right through a hotel territory and see Bulls

Then I had to walk through a private road

Afterwards I had to climb over a barb wire fence

Approximately 3km from starting point, you’ll reach a point with a wooden structure to enjoy the panoramic scenery and recharge (really worth to get to this point as it’s one of the highlights of this trail)

After approximately 4km, at the bottom of the hill I had cows lying in the way and grazing, you can choose to climb up, there is no path here, so you need to make your way up or if it is to steep for you, choose to go back (if you are with a partner, she might hate you for taking her up this part climbing)

It was just super steep uphill, there is no trail whatsoever here and you have to make your way through prickly bushes while holding yourself for your life and constantly looking at navigation

Once you survive the super steep part, you reach the windmill section, this is private territory and I don’t think anyone is allowed to come up here…

After the highest peak here, it goes downhill and it’s alright, after you slip and fall several times and get chased by goats (just kidding) you should be fine and down in approximately 1.5 hours or so

Then once you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel, at the end of the road before the highway there is a gate and a camera pointing towards the gate. I must have been well dressed, because someone opened the gate from a distance

Then the journey isn’t over yet as you have to walk past the highway and make your way back to the car while cars are racing past you

    Make Sure You Have;

    • good physique as this trail requires it
    • not being afraid to climb and following the trail as much as possible even at spots where there’s no path
    • camelback and 2L of water
    • plenty of snacks for 5 hours hike
    • long pants that are good to walk through prickly bushes
    • a hat that doesn’t fly off your head easily
    • sunglasses
    • fully charged phone (power bank fully charged)
    • good navigation skills
    • can and will do attitude
    • there’s no way back, only forward attitude
