Itinerary description
The walk starts off from a parking area at Playas de Valdevaquero from where we (are missing this stretch which follows the tarmacked road then the wide gravel track to Betishuelo). The recording on this is easy to follow paths which were originally made when the electric pilots were laid, so follow them up. You then turn right to the hamlet of Betis along tracks until you reach the sendero marked Tajo del Bujo and take this path to your left and ascend to the 400m summit of this walk. At this point you have to cross a fence/gate to get panoramic views of Bolonia and the beaches 400m below you. You are standing atop near vertical face of the mountain and chances are you will see vultures circling the thermals below you. You now need to get back on track and this means go back behind the fence and take the left southwards and up to trek along the crest of the rocky outcrop for a couple of KM. The path is narrow and overgrown but visible. Eventually you come across pine woodland and start to descent somewhat until you get to a junction on a widish dirt path which gives you the option to go down to your starting point or up towards the Altos de Betishuelo. This is the route we followed today- at which point we get another grand view of Tarifa beaches and morocco on a good day. From this signposted viewing area we follow the senderos down towards the sea, crossing more pinewoods, scrubland, diy river valley, sandy dunes all the way to a minor road. We cross this and 300m further we reach the beautiful beaches . Be aware though, at high tide your walk back along the beach may be impossible or may require you getting in the water. With high tide and strong waves this may not be adviseable. My advice is to check the tide. At worse, you may have to backtrack back to the road. If low tide, the walk along the beach back to starting point is beautiful . Leisurely this walk can take anything between 4-6 hours but you will enjoy very varied landscape. Avoid doing this during the summer months
