Itinerary description

A real mountain trip when you move over the Teix between Deia and Valldemossa. Both towns are in themselves among the most beautiful in Mallorca, located at the foot of the Teix massif. The walk is to be entered as part of the GR221, but is still not signposted and marked as such. The Archduke's (Ludvig Salvatore of Habsburg 1847-1915) impressive walking and riding road, Cami de s' Arxiduc right out on the edge of the Teix mountains is clearly the most spectacular part of the tour. From Deia, the mountains appear extra beautiful, like a steep and white-colored bastion. The view is fantastic and alone worth the trip, but there are also many interesting cultural monuments in the climbs. The ascent from Valldemossa passes the scenic viewpoints
Mirador de sa Regata de les Onze (740 m) and Vista Sa Foradada (853 m).

Valldemossa:
A heavenly village in the midst of a valley, with steep streets flanked by stone houses and flowerpots. An atmosphere that inspired writers like Jovellanos, Rubén Darío and Santiago Rusiñol. A large part of the local history focusses on the Carthusian monastery (La Cartoixa), the cells of which were witness to the love of Chopin and George Sand.

Deià:
In the shadow of the Teix mountain lies Deià, a legendary village thanks to the cosmopolitan aura provided by artists from all over the world. It has three zones: Es Puig, crowned by the church and the cemetery; the central part, along the Valldemossa to Sóller road; and Es Clot, the lower zone and original heart of the village. Located on the north-western slopes of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, Deià boasts a privileged setting, between the sheer rock faces of Puig des Teix and the blue waters along Mallorca's north coast. Its beauty has made it one of the best known tourist spots on the island and it has been visited by artists from all over the world, some of whom are now at rest in the cemetery. The town has its origins in the farmstead "Addaya", which the king granted to Nunó Sanç, and he in turn to the Cistercian La Real monastery. Built in the surroundings of Es Puig, places of note include the parish church of Sant Joan; the nearby cemetery; the water supply system, with fountains, wash-houses and mills; and the houses, which conserve interesting aspects of vernacular architecture of the Serra de Tramuntana.
