Itinerary description
DAY 1
Starting from Refugio de Bujaruelo we went all along the Rio Ara valley where we could stop from time to time to make our t-shirt and cap wet to cool down the temperature.
After 9,5 kms we stopped next to Cabana de Labaza where we had a quick break to eat something, then we went on to cross the "Col des Mulets" and step out feet in France, after this last uphill of the day, was all way down until the valley of the "Refuge des Oulettes de Gaube" where many rivers from the Vignemale glaciar are starting. We planted the tent and had dinner outside with an amazing view of the Vignemale's north face in front of us with sunset.
DAY 2
The following morning we had a breakfast (nothing special) in the Refuge des Oulettes, and we started our way up with a wonderful fresh morning breeze until Horquette d'Ossue and then going down to Refuge de Bayssellance. We kept going down but at the crossway between going up to the Glacier and going down to the valley we decided to skip the Vignemale peak due to no crampons in our backpacks.
We could have done at least the "Petit Vignemale" which was not requiring equipment, but we were already on the way down. After this we had a quick stop at the Grottes Belleuves, where Henry Russell was creating 3 small caves between the 1888 - 1890 (nice story about this).
The walk down through this valley was nice, the river, waterfalls, a simple bridge in the middle of it and some animals eating grass, were making our walk interesting, this valley is so huge it makes you feel so small, in winter it might be so wonderful all coverd with snow. We had lunch in the shade next to Lac d'Ossue.
After this we started our last 5 kms up in a valley full of cows eating grass and up in the sky we could spot a bunch of vultures (buitres) flying around all the time, we were on the way to cross the border between France back to Spain again, crossing the Col de la Bernatoire and going down to Ibon de Bernatuara, here the last stop to enjoy the quiet relaxing view of this mountain lake.
The way down after this point was though rocks and then the last part in the forest, where we stopped a bit before Refugio de Bujaruelo, next to the bridge to have a quick fresh swim in the rio Ara many more people were refreshing as well ;)
Nice trip to do again for sure adding some peaks!!!
