Itinerary description
Trail from Vila de Sagres to Figueira passing through:
- Praia dos Rebolinhos (0.5 km)
- Praia do Barranco (4.8 km)
- Praia da Ingrina (6.8 km)
- Praia do Zavial (7.5 km)
- Praia das Furnas (9.9 km)
Cabo de São Vicente
A wonderful and over long distances very lonely hiking tour along
the coast. You will start at the beautiful sandy beach of
Martinhal near the southwesternmost point of Europe. The coastal
and cliff path of the Fishermen's Trail leads you through numerous
small bays, along rocky and sandy cliff paths and over wide lonely
plateaus, where you hike flat for a long time through barren territory.
Between the bays you can expect repeated ascents to the cliffs and plateaus with fantastic views.
Later you will encounter some beaches and then climb again to the rugged heights of the rocky coast. Your destination is a sleepy little village on the plateau, not far from the sea but far from mass tourism. The route is demanding in parts:
numerous climbs and descents on partly rocky ground await you,
some passages lead through bushes and scrub. In some sections
you will also be on wide gravel roads/trails. You can orient yourself by
the green-blue markings of the Fishermen's Trail (Rota Vicentina).
