Itinerary description

Long day from Vila do Bispo (reachable by bus 47 from Lagos) to Arrifana (stayed at hostel).

Difficulty is subjective, mostly due to distance and the sandy section, however, a good portion of the way is pretty easy going. Well marked, although the second half uses red and white GR markings, except when the trails diverge. The surfaces and views are prety diverse. The first 7 km or so out of Vila do Bispo is along a flat dirt road; then there's a couple of short, but steep ups and downs along the coast until Praia do Amado. At Carrapateira town, you can catch a bus if you've had enough. Leaving town, there's a fairly long road walking bit, followed by a long and tiring sand section. It's an easy dirt road cruise to finish in Arrifana.

There is a grocery store and cafés in Vila do Bispo, and a small café or two at Praia do Amado (depending on season), in Carrapateira and Arrifana.

I was glad I did the trail northbound, that way the sun is behind you, more or less, rather than in your face.
