Itinerary description

This is a relatively easy circular walk of 12km, all on wide and mainly firm tracks and as a result sociable.  There are a variety of ups and downs, but with the exception of one 300m section that is relatively steep all the slopes are gentle.
The walk starts 2km away from our breakfast stop outside Villanuava del Trabuco, follows a river valley for 1km and then we start a steady climb to the escarpment that is the backdrop to the village.  We are walking most of the time on PR-A 339.
The walk then goes down to the valley bottom, and up the short steep section to a country road, that we follow for 300m before cutting back onto a track to follow the escarpment again.
We arrive after a few minutes at the 100 Caños (spouts) that are set in the base of the rock and a little below the source of the Rio Guadalhorce that flows through to El Chorro and then Alora and Cartama Estaćion and caused much flooding throughout its length in October 2012.
Lunch will be taken near 100 Caños and you can be as sociable or independent as you like – you will see what this means when we arrive.
After lunch we walk through a pine forest and skirt the rock escarpment before dropping down to the place we started from.  Refreshments will be close to the end of the walk ..
The walk provides lovely far reaching views to the North and there are magnificent limestone outcrops along the way that make up the Sierra de San Jorge.  The Zaffaraya pass is visible at one point.
