Itinerary description
Long but easy walk from Villard-Reculas to Oz station through the communal forest, with some small viewpoints at times, but mostly a hike with welcoming shadow perfect for a hot day.
The first two kilometers are the hardest considering the steep height meters, especially when walking on a hot sunny day (like me). After like 3,5 km you’ll start walking in the forest and in the shadow, so it’s perfect for a hot day.
I did the hike all by myself (24 year old girl), so it can safely be done alone, but be careful for mountainbikers though, which take the same paths and drive quite fast at some parts. For the first 8,5 km the path is quite small, up to only 30 cm with an abyss on your side at times. And there were some big footprints (dog like, but way bigger, and no nearby human footprints to accompany him) and big piles of pop (also dog-like but bigger). I didn’t see anything except for a mole, some birds and lots of insects though, but be careful, especially when walking alone or in nightfall, and keep your eyes and ears open (for both animals as mountainbikers).
After arriving in Oz, there is a parking lot and you have possibility to take the ski lifts up to Alpe d’Huez or Vaujany, or back to Villard Reculas or down to Allemont. Or you can make it a loop by taking the same road back of course.
