Itinerary description

(en français:
http://www.randos-vernetlesbains-canigou.eu/villerach_chapel.pdf)

A fine half-day's walk from the pretty village of Villerach. You climb up to the isolated St Etienne (Sant Esteve) chapel, which is perched high on the side of the mountain. The return section follows part of the 'Ronde du Canigó' regional path.

1 - The start. The village of Villerach. We go through the oldest part of the village ('Rue des Treilles') and we descend on a path which is followed by the 'Ronde du Canigó' (with red-and-yellow waymarks). We cross a stream.

2 - A small bridge. We cross a canal and we climb straight ahead... The slope becomes quite steep.

3 - A track bifurcation at a col. We go to the left (and we leave the 'Ronde du Canigó')... We stay on the main track.

4 - Track junction. We go to the left... The track winds uphill.

5 - Track-path bifurcation. We take a path on the right ("St Etienne 15 mins").

6 - Path junction. We go straight ahead... The slope is steep and rocky.

7 - The chapel (St Etienne / St Esteve). We descend by the same path to:

5 - Track-path bifurcation. We go to the right, along the track.

8 - Coll del Forn. We go to the left. At a track bifurcation, at the far end of the car park on our right, we go to the right. The track soon starts to descend... The track descends along the line of a ridge.

9 - Track-path crossing ('Coll dels Grecs'). We go to the left, and we descend on a path which has red-and-yellow waymarks (this is the 'Ronde du Canigó' again)... The path crosses the line of a stream, then it climbs the hillside.

10 - Path-track junction. We go to the right, along the track... We stay on the main track, which is still indicated by red-and-yellow waymarks.

11 - Track junction. We go to the left. The track winds downhill.

12 - Track-path bifurcation (just before the track goes under a canal aqueduct). We follow the path to the left (and we continue to follow the red-and-yellow waymarks). The path climbs a slope... The path soon leads us back to Villerach village.
