I was born in March 1971 and UAE was created in December 1971.
To commemorate UAE's 50th National day in 2021, I have ventured into my own Hiking tribute to UAE where I have stayed for the last 28 years.
My project is W2W (Wadi to Wadi ) and this particular hike was the 5th segment.
We hiked this trail today 27th November 2021.
We connected Wadi Bih with Wadi Khamed ( Shah ) via Yabana mountain summit.
Our summit for the trail was Jebel Yabana itself at appx 1500 meters elevation.
From the summit, the views of Yibir, Mebrah, Jebel Qadaah, Wadi Shah, Jebel Jais, and various mountain peaks of Omani Musandam area.
We started from a village near Wadi Bih at the base of Yabana range, and hiked up the steep Wadi towards Wadi Far summit mountain..
This section of the Wadi is quite steep in gradient and full of loose rocks and boulders.
The first half is full of large stable boulders through which you need to navigate.
Second half is full of loose rocks where you really have to be careful on your footing as every rock seems to be loose.
Once at Wadi Far summit at 1000 meters elevation, we proceeded right towards the Yabana summit and reached the final summit of about 1500 meters.
This section is full of large crude and sharp rocks and navigating through them needs care and hand gloves. You will also encounter loose loose rocks.
Also from this point onwards you are at the mercy of the Sun.
The Ascent is quick and you gain elevation fast.
Along that section, the views are impressive from Wadi Shah and Jebel Jais mountain sections.
There are 2 summits at the top of Yabana mountain.
One summit has a UAE survey department installed Pole, apparently it had some weather monitoring equipment in the past.
The second summit 100 meters away is at the edge of the mountain with a large spectacular UAE Flag installed on a tall steel pole.
You would wonder how the poles were brought, erected and installed at that point considering the logistics, terrain and difficulty.
There is also a Visitors book that can be signed by the hikers for their memory.
Later we descended towards Yabana village, walked through some challenging terrain until we reached the village.
Then further we descended into Wadi Shah via a long well laid trail all the way.
You will find lots of manmade stairs.
This hike had everything in it, Bouldering, Pricky large rocks, mountain surface, Loose rocks, donkey trails and some trails.
During the hike, we didnt see anyone in the villages.
So be self supportive and carry all necessary items with you.
