Itinerary description

Wadi Abadilah is one of the trail that became very popular recently. Mainly due to its beautiful nature and the difficulty level is somewhat easy to moderate.

The trail is located in Abadilah, Fujairah emirate nearby Masafi. On the way to Dibba from Masafi you have to take the exit to a muddy road (25.43829074015991, 56.19656353977591). You can also search in maps “Wadi abadilah entry point”. Once you took the exit, take left again as the road is divided into to two. After driving about 250 meters you will reach the starting point where you can also park your cars (25.440730169054376, 56.19691414399228). Sedan cars are enough to reach the starting point.

There are steps at the starting point which will take you down to the wadi. Once you are down, take right and walk next to the fencing. It’s an agricultural farm which plants orange, banana etc. And then you will slowly get down in to the wadi. The first 1 km is very greenish eye soothing walk where you can see all these trees, small rock pools, water flows, some natural springs etc. After about 1 km, the terrain is different and become dry area. Don’t get confused (like me ) when you see a stair on your left, narrow way between rocks in your middle and another way on your right. Just take the stairs on your left which is actually made to pass the rocks. One you are on top of the mountain (stairs are finished) don’t take left, just continue walking straight which will take you down to the dry river bed.

You can walk through the wadi as long as you want (as you will be coming back to through the same way). Its relatively an easy walk, but need to be careful when you bypass some pools / boulders where you may have to do bit of scrambling (according to your skill). We returned after hiking about 3.5km to make it about a 7km long hike.

I have seen many families with small kids doing the hike and they are enjoying it very well. In case you are walking through the pools just be careful as the rocks are slippery. The trail has a lot of water pools but again it depends upon the season / rain. Just also keep in mind that mobile network is not available when you pass about 1km.

Location : Wadi Abadilah (Masafi – Dibba road)
Starting : 25.440730169054376, 56.19691414399228 (sedan car is accessible)
Difficulty : Easy to Moderate
Highlight : Lush greenery with agricultural farms, natural rock pools, natural spring etc.

Note the waypoints and read their description. Please reach out for any further info / clarifications

    Done this one, beautiful! But so many hikers....! Come early we started 9am which was far to late to escape the crowd.

    We totally missed the stairs on the left and continued straight. It was climbing and going up the mountain steeply. Fun but became a bit dangerous at some point so we came back... don’t miss those stairs!

    @Angela

    Hi,

    Nice to hear that you did the trail.. Yes.. indeed its crowded nowadays.. especially on Fridays... Even when i did it was on Saturday but still crowded.. As the trail is getting more and more popular its gonna be more!

    Better to do on Weekdays or at least Saturday and try to start as early as possible..

    @Amna,

    Hi Muhasin, hope you are doing good. Planning to follow this trail this weekend. Just want to confirm with you whether we would be required to remove shoes/ wade in water during this hike. So that I can accordingly wear clothes and shoes. Please let me know. Thanks.

    Hello My friend.. Alhamdulillah doing well..

    Surprised to hear that you haven't been here yet! Nevertheless, back to the point: Water is present only at the first km and as far as i remember removing shoes is not mandatory as you can bypass wadi / wet areas easily unless you really want to make your feet wet ( fish spa :) ?)

    Go for it before the wadi becomes dry!

    Zanfer Mar 3, 2021

    Great :) Yeah, this trail has been in my bucket list for long and for one reason or another got postponed. Insha Allah would be going this weekend. Thanks for the prompt reply and info... Much appreciated. Ha ha... maybe I would try fish spa :D Would leave a comment once I complete this trail :)

    Its Easy hike and adventurous for kids, we go with kids, when the green farm end in the valley nearly 1km. take stairs going up to your left. and after stairs go down there is safety rope available. then continue walking through the valley. at some locations showing Red Arrow directions for guidance.

    Great instructions of the starting point! We extended a bit the hike, the deeper you go in the wadi the narrower becomes the canyon, which gives better views but in the same time becomes more slipery, due to the polished stones. Nice hike overall!

    Thanks for sharing this trail Muhasin. I completed it yesterday (Sunday) and I only passed one other hiker so clearly weekdays are better if you want to avoid the crowds. Stunning walk and even though only just coming out of summer (mid-November) there was still some water in the pools. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Decent foot-ware certainly advisable.

    @ Muhasin Pallikkal

    Thanks for sharing this trail. We tried it last Friday.

    We got through fine until the end of the green plantation area until the waypoint where it has stairs going up from the left side. Once we got up, we followed the trail which got us walking back to the starting point facing the direction back to the main road.

    Once you climb the stairs and come to the end of it, I think the trail is not very clear. By default you turn left.

    This waypoint is described as "Don not take left. Just go straight which will take you down to the wadi." By "go straight" do you mean stay right as soon as you complete the stairs?

    I am planning to go again. It was a good hike albeit a short one.

  • Photo of Muhasin Pallikkal
    Muhasin Pallikkal Dec 19, 2021

    @abhaywade,

    Sad to hear that..

    Yes once you are done the stairs, you have to keep right / straight.. talking left wil redirect you to the main road..

    Once you take rigght, you can also see a rope attached in the side for holding while descending to the wadi (I assume the rope is still there)..

    Hope you will make it next time 😊

  • iansadowski Dec 19, 2021

    We did the same ... going right was a very small ledge, one slip and your down the cliff, my nerves couldnt take it with 2 dogs lol so we just came back on ourselves and finished earlier then expected

    Excellent hike & thanks for your great instructions! We missed the stairs and carried on through the mountains until it became too dangerous! Then double backed and saw the stairs!!!!!!!! Keep your eyes left everyone! Those stairs are easy to miss! 🤣 we took your instructions to head right and went down into the wadi (rope has been removed!! If you do this afternoon around 3.00 will be fine.. but remember by 5.30 you have to get back (sunset) so stop and return accordingly..

    However recently there was rain in that area so expect more water than usual..

    Hiking in wadi areas when there is a chance of rain is really a bad idea.. we never know when the rain will become heavy and then all of a sudden flash flood happens...

    Better be safe than sorry...
