Waterfall And Blue Lagoon (Potami-Kosmadei-Potami)

Schöne und einsame Berg- und Küstenwanderung im Westen der Insel. Scheitelpunkt ist das höchstgelegene Dorf von Samos.
Auf dem Weg dorthin passiert man den Potami-Wasserfall zu dem man durch einen kleinen Canyon waten b.z.w. schwimmen muß, um ihn zu Gesicht zu bekommen.
Danach steigt man erfrischt vom kalten Wasser durch einsamen Kiefernwald auf alten Pfaden über das Örtchen Tsourlei nach Nikoloudes zur ältesten Platane der Insel auf, an deren Fuß man eine Quelle und gute Rastmöglichkeit findet.
Nach einem weiteren Aufstieg zum höchsten Punkt in Kosmadei, steigt man über einen nicht enden wollenden Serpentinenweg zur Steilküste ab und erreicht die filmreife Kulisse der kleinen Badebucht Mikro Seitani. Wenn man sich genug Zeit läßt und dort erst ab 19 Uhr aufschlägt, stehen die Chancen gut völlig allein zu sein und den Sonnenuntergang ungestört genießen zu können.
Das letzte Stück des Weges schlängelt sich durch Olivenhaine und Wald an der Küste entlang zurück nach Potami.

Aufgrund zugewachsener, unpassierbarer Pfade mußte ich allerdings beim Abstieg zur Küste ein kurzes Stück durch einen Olivebhain absteigen anstatt dem alten Pfad zu folgen. Auch beim Aufstieg, kurz vor Kosmadei, mußte ich die letzten Meter an der Straße zurücklegen. Der alte Pfad war aufgrund von Dornenbüschen ohne Machete leider komplett unpassierbar.


Nice hike in the western part of the island. Up to the highest village of Samos and back to the western coastline.
On your way you may visit the Potami-waterfall. You will have to swim through a little canyon to take a look at it. After that you' ll be refreshed for the climb up to the little village of Tsourlei, from where you follow old paths through lonely pinewoods to the village of Nikoloudes, where you may rest under the oldest sycamore tree of Samos to take a sip from the local well.
After another ascent you will reach the highest point in the village of Kosmadei. After that a neverending graveltrack takes you down back to the coast where you will soon reach the movie like bay of Mikro Seitani.
Chances are good to be completly allone there when you are passing by after 7.00 pm. Enjoy the sunset!
The last part of the way follows the coast line on old paths through pine woods and olive groves back to Potami.

Because of overgrown and impassable old paths I had to take a short detour on my descent to the coast line, instead of following an old path I had to find my way down through an olive grove for five minutes.
Also on my way up to Kosmadei I had to follow the street for the last few meters because of an impassable old path. I would have needed a machete there!
