Itinerary description
This tour was very much last minute. Had I had more time, I would have planned it better and extended it to view the Chira dam. (I could have carried on from where I stopped if I had realised the dam was as close as it was.)
It's an out-and-back tour starting from Soria, where there is very limited on-street parking. (A restaurant has parking for its customers, so I suppose you could have a bite to eat there after you had finished the tour to get the free parking.)
It starts on a road that leads to the dam, crosses over it and then you're on mountain hiking path. This is the S60.
Quite by chance I discovered the highlight of the tour: a natural hole in the rock, a smaller version of the Ventana del Nublo. Through the 'window' you can see clearly the town of Soria.
I carried on the path and stopped when I reached Lomo de la Palma. From here you can see Roque Nublo in the distance to your left.
The tour is classed as intermediate, but I found the going quite tricky in some places; perhaps, the hardest I'd encountered in my hiking in Gran Canaria. Nothing too drastic, but took my concentration. The return trip took about 3 hours 30 minutes.
The other thing to see is that the road to Soria is the GC-605 which starts out gentle , but becomes more and more challenging the nearer to Soria. Fortunately, there's not too much traffic.
