Itinerary description
Yeghnasar mountain ( Եղնասար լեռ) is a summit with the height of 2599 m in Aregunu mountain range ( Արեգունու լեռներ )․
The mountain overlooks Sevan lake and Sevani mountain range ( Սևանի լեռնաշղթա ) and this is the best option for those who want to see Sevan lake from bird's eye view not far from Yerevan ( 50 min driving).
▲ Some information about this trail ▲
--- This trail starts from Tsovagyugh food court, first it heads to the small Kakach lake in the mountains, then to Yeghnasar summit and down to Semyonovka village ( Սեմյոնովկա գյուղ ).
--- First 1.5 km from Tsovagyugh market is an asphalt road through Tsovaghyugh village ( Ծովագյուղ ). So you can skip this part by getting there by car.
--- After Tsovagyugh village you join a jeep trek which leads you to the lake ( Կակաչ լիճ ) , then you keep direction to Yeghnasar.
--- From Kakach lake to Yeghnasar summit there is no trail, only small tiny paths, which get lost all the time, so the most important thing to know here is following the same direction as in a trail.
--- Whenever you get to the summit, there can be a confusion about the highest peak, as 2 peaks close together have the same heights. So both of them can be considered as Yeghnasar summit. I've mentioned them in the waypoints.
--- After the summit you turn to Semyonovka village direction, to the right and join jeep treks (After 300-350 m hike you'll see the trek).
---- Almost all the hike from summit to Semyonovka you follow jeep treks, so it will be smoother and easier to go down.
--- You can do the same hike starting from Semyonovka village, but as a hiker I always prefer to pass steep parts while going up and choose an easier and longer descent.
SEASON:
Yeghnasar is a mountain surrounding Sevan lake.
All the mountains that are part of Sevani mountain range and Areguni mountains (Aregunu mountains) have similar and unique weather conditions.
It's generally sunny and windy at the same time, so even in hot weather you may have a strong wind.
We normally hike these mountains from late spring till mid November.
Some people prefer to hike them in winter and you need winter hike outfit for that as it could be extremely cold up there.
▶Recommended:
▸May, June, early July - greenery, comfort temperature
▸From late December till March (when snowy) - stunning view of white landscapes and frozen Sevan (cold temperature)
▶Doable:
▸After mid July till December these mountains' vegetation gets dried and we have golden landscapes here.
