Itinerary description
A hike through lovely forest to a ridge top with great views of Lake Cowichan.
Starting out, you will be walking in forest alongside Widowmaker Creek. In the winter it rages but at mid summer, the time of this hike, it burbles its way downhill through sun dappled shade.
Once on the ridge, due to logging, the forest opens up providing good views of the surrounding mountains. Roosevelt elk like to hang out in this area, keep your eyes peeled!
You will be rewarded, at the top of this hike with great views east and south over Lake Cowichan.
The descent is again via a nicely shaded forest trail, crossing a couple of small streams.
This trail is partially over logging roads, the downhill segment is a forest trail and there is a short segment over North Shore Road leading back to the trailhead. On the last segment, be aware of vehicle traffic, especially logging trucks!
