Itinerary description
If you want to summit Zaarour, Sannine and Mzaar on the same day, this trail is for you. Amazing loop covering Zaarour, Sannine, Mzaar, Faqra, Bakish and wadi el deleb. Starting from the "famous" old house in wadi el deleb where you can park your car, the ascent of Zaarour starts after a short road walk. Following dirt roads and some shortcuts, we reached Zaarour summit in 1h30min. No technical difficulty here. From there, we went east following "la ligne des crêtes", a pleasant walk at this time of the year. After crossing Sannine - Tarchich road, we started climbing Sannine from the south. Here we followed the ridge off-trail. Beautiful sceneries all around. Anti-Liban, Bekaa valley, mount Hermon,Qaraoun lake, Barouk, Kneisseh, Metn, Beirut and the sea were clearly seen on this beautiful sunny day. After a short rest at Sannine cross, we continued our way towards the 3rd summit: Mzaar. Here we took the 4x4 road (as we always do when going from Sannine to Mzaar). NEVER ATTEMPT A DIRECT ACCESS TO MZAAR FOLLOWING THE RIDGE. THIS AREA MAY CONTAIN MINES! STAY ON THE ROAD BUT YOU CAN VISIT SOME HILLS NEXT TO THE TRAIL WHERE YOU CAN SEE CROSSES WITH HILL NAMES NEXT TO THEM. The trail is easy and we reached Mzaar summit and Cross where we had a second lunch stop. From Mzaar, we took the well-known "ligne des crêtes" before reaching Faqra club top of ski lifts. From Faqra, we went down to Qanat Bakish. Next to a house in Bakish, i took a shortcut down off-trail to catch the LMT section 14 (Kfardebian-Baskinta). This shortcut is not easy and you have to watch your steps and find the best route for you. The signs are clear and you can't be lost. At reaching Baskinta-Sannine road, we left the LMT and we took the way to Wadi el Deleb to reach our starting point. This is very beautiful loop but it's physically (and mentally!) demanding especially in hot weather. Have lot of water especially that the first fountain you encounter is at Bakish! (See waypoints). Enjoy our beautiful Lebanon. Keep it clean and keep hiking safely.
