Zuheros, por el Río Bailón

El primer día del viaje de senderismo de Kath a las Sierras Subbéticas, fuimos en el autocar al punto de partido a unos 925m de altura y pocos kilómetros a las afueras del pueblo de Zuheros. Primero una subida suave a la altura máxima de 1040m antes de empezar la larga bajada al parking a la altura de 610m. Hay vistas muy bonitas desde la parte alta de la ruta, pero una vez empezado la bajada por el cauce del Río Bailón entramos en un sendero de montaña , un entorno muy bonito, rocoso pero también con vegetación. El río estaba seco (29 febrero 2012) salvo unos sitios donde los charcos estaban helados haciendo un contraste con el día tan bonita de sol y relativo calor. En su totalidad es una ruta preciosa pero peligrosa. La superficie requiere calzado fuerte de senderismo y en realidad no es apto para gente con problemas de estabilidad por la condición muy pedregosa del camino. También hay trozos difíciles por unas pendientes muy prenunciadas y con tierra muy suelta. Un camino verdaderamente bonito pero requiere el debido respeto por las razones mencionadas. El pueblo de Zuheros el muy bonito, y vale la pena visitar las calles, la plaza y el castillo.
The first day of Kath's Hiking Trip 2012 to the Subbetica Mountain Range, we went by coach to our starting point on the road just outside Zuheros, at a hight of 925m. We started with a gentle climb to about 1040m before beginning our long descent to the Parking area at 610m. There are beautiful views from the early part of the route. Once we began our descent along the banks of the River Bailon we were on mountain paths, in lovely surroundings, rocky but with plenty of vegetation. The river was dry (29 Feburary 2012) except for a few pools which were frozen rock hard, a strange contrast with the relatively warm sunny morning. The whole route is beautiful but somewhat dangerous. The surface demands good Hiking boots, and is really not people with stability problems because of the rocky nature of the pathways. There are also some very difficult areas because of steep rocky areas and loose surfaces. In general a beautiful walk, but demands respect because of the above mentioned reasons. The town of Zuheros is one of the most beautiful in the area and it is worth while making time to visit its streets, squares and the castle.
