Itinerary description

This is one of the best rides on the West side of the Teton Range. The trail has a lot of variety and good views. I don't think there has been a year we have not ridden to Green Lakes and Granite Basin.

There are two problem spots during the ride. One spot consists of several steep rock steps that are a challenge for the horses to decide where to put their feet, the other is a steep rocky spot on a mountainside above Granite Basin. They are shown as waypoints on the map. The loop is best ridden in a clockwise direction so you ride the difficult spots going up. I sometimes get off and walk.

If at all possible do not take the high route shortcut around the green lakes. There is so much to see down by the lakes.

We always have lunch at the top lake in the Granite Basin. But before you go down to the lake, take a side trip up to the Teton Crest for a great view.

Caution

This short section of trail is at the top of a steep mountain side. It is scarier going down.
