Itinerary description
Moose Crk to Game Crk is a two-day ride. Use recreation.gov the first Monday of January at 8AM to get a permit reservation for the horse camp in North Granite Canyon, Grand Teton National Park. If you wait until late in the season you can probably walk into the Craig Thomas and Colter Bay visitor centers or at the Jenny Lake Ranger Station to get a permit.
This is a spectacular ride but only for the adventuresome. The true mileage is 26.5 miles. Often GPS tracks underestimate milage. You will also need your horses brand certificate, a current Coggins test (good for a year), and a current horse health certificate (good for a month).
Game Creek Pass would be rated a black diamond. A black diamond means that riders and horses should be in top shape due to steepness, rockiness, and obscure trail. Riders should also do some walking, especially going down the West side of Game Creek Pass. We also had a problem finding the very last portion of the trail to the Game Creek Trailhead. If you find yourself looking down at a dam and the road, go back. Somewhere back down the trail there must be a turnoff to the road.
