Itinerary description
Loop in Mongolia to meet the Tsaatan people at the border with Siberia. This is commonly done on horseback, due also to the presence of long stretches inside swamps which would pose problems to ordinary walking.
Be sure to obtain in Murun a permit for the border areas, otherwise you will be stopped by the police in Tsagaan Nuur, like happened to us, who had to drive back to Murun and back overnight, with a huge performance of our Uaz driver.
At the first camp there were rumors according to which, if you step too close to the Siberian border, you can run into some Russian border guard, who typically asks you for a huge bribe in order not to be arrested. I do not know if these rumors are true or if they only aimed to discourage me, wanting to ascend some summit, to go too far away.
What is true is that the second camp had been robbed during the night before our arrival by thieves coming from, and escaping to, Siberia.
