Itinerary description
Guadarranque RIver one way was in actual fact a loop which started from a sandy cove near Guadacorte urbanization . Access to and from the sea can be a fun event , you will need to surf small waves into the estuary Unfortunately the area closest to the Bay of Gibraltar is surrounded by the stinking oil refinery and it’s huge smoking stacks. But the gently flowing river is fine for a family kayak or canoe trip. This journey took us 5.5km inland under the main highway and under the train track bridge into the coak oak land behind Estación de San Roque. Bird life improves as you go inland especially the huge white storks who nest in any available electrical pilón so close up views of them are almost guaranteed. The scenery is of reeds and riverside eucalyptus and oaks mainly and plenty of unattractive houses built during the 50/60s. The river can swell during heavy rains but the flow is gentle.
