Itinerary description
Sihlsee is an artificial lake popular mostly with wind surfers and kite surfers. The surrounding mountains seem to perform some sort of wind (and wave) amplification, so even when at the northers edge there is almost no wind, there are good sailing conditions in the southern part of the lake. This makes cayaking on this lake a little tricky, especially on the (more attractive) southern part. One needs to pick days with almost zero wind predicted to be able to comfortably paddle this part.
The western shore generally is more beautiful, with more nature and less infrastructure. On the southern shore it's also possible to explore a sort-of river delta and enter the Sihl river.
Anyone who has ventured further upwards the Sihl from the lake please leave a comment. I'd be curious to learn how far it's possible to paddle from the lake. Close to the lake, the river current is very low in the summer, though that is likely to change further upwards.
