At this stage we had to alter the route again to try to reach the destination planned for this day, Bergen. So instead of pulling into the famous Geiranger Fjords or the Troll Highway we had to roll inland to the town of Lom.
During the Middle Ages, huge stone cathedrals were built in many parts of Europe. In Norway, however, a similar technique was used to build in wood. Here in Lom we find one of the most famous.
We will continue along Snøvegen or The Snow Road, a 48-kilometer road located in Western Norway that connects the municipalities of Aurlandsvangen with Laerdal and leads from sea level to an altitude of 1,309 meters above sea level. Despite its name, now in midsummer it looks clear of snow.
We visit the Stegastein Viewpoint, famous for the "glass" that closes the viewpoint as a springboard.
On the inner shore of the Aurlandsfjord, surrounded by rugged mountains, thunderous waterfalls and narrow valleys, you'll find the small village of Flåm.
And finally, almost coinciding with the closing of the last tunnel (thank goodness if we accessed this one), we arrived in Bergen, the second largest city in Norway that is trapped between mountain slopes and overlooking the sea, which feels like you hugs.
Bergen is famous for the seven mountains that surround the city center, the Bryggen Hanseatic Pier, the fish market, and one of Norway's biggest cultural events, the Bergen International Festival, held here every year.
We will spend stage 18 touring the city and taking the ferry that will leave us in Hirtshals (Denmark).
