Itinerary description
The 160km Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) is a wonderful chance to check out some of the beautiful rural countryside close to Brisbane. If you are walking, it maybe best to break it up into several smaller trips. Our adventure continued from Harlin as we followed the unsealed trail through the towns of Toogoolawah, Esk and through to Coominya. We actually rode our bikes on this 56km stretch as a recce for a future hike. This section takes you through reasonably flat areas as it winds through grazing country with the occasional patch of cultivation. Its beautiful to see the bright green paddocks when travelling close to the Brisbane River, where the irrigated crops stand out against the often dry, brown countryside. During most of the journey the trail is basically an old gravel/ dirt road but there are a few sections near Toogoolawah that are particularly rough. For more information check out our Facebook Hiking Site- "Take A Hike - SE Qld".
