Itinerary description

This is another potential bike trail that goes along the levee that follows Butte Creek. The levee ends at the northern end but could extended north to the end of Picholine Way (a road which connects to the Humboldt Bike Path). The southern end of the levee trail ends at a bunch of NO TRESSPASSING signs. The guy that lives along the levee there is very serious about NONE SHALL PASS!!! He claims that the levee road is privately owned by him (a claim I find dubious) even though the state built the levee. In any event the trail ends here because it is really not worth bothering this extremely cranky man. The hyper-territoriality of rural Americans is a very annoying part of American culture. This is very unfortunate because this trail could extend to Durham, CA and beyond. Go west and you will find the Midway Bicycle Trail instead of continuing along the levee.
