Itinerary description
This begin and finishes near to the top of Chipmunk Mountain. The initial downhill is a little tricky at the start and the track occasionally seems to momentarily disappear but is a steady downhill stretch down to the main track where you then head towards El Matoral before turning along the road (RV 1) which takes you to the Cement Factory. Once at the factory the route once more turns back into a dirt track which is then a an uphill leg until just past RV 3, at RV 3 there is a good photo opportunity before cycling to the summit. The remainder of the outward leg is a slight downhill stretch (be aware the wind can make this leg a little uncomfortable) until you arrive at the cafe and refreshment stop.
The homeward journey is completely the reverse but the section from the Cafe at RV4 to the RV 5 is pretty much all downhill and if you’re lucky to have the wind behind you it is easy to reach speeds of up to 40kph, however be careful of the soft and loose gravel at the bottom of the hill which may cause your tyres to sink a little and make steering a little tricky and can throw you of balance. From RV5 back to Chipmunk Mountain is once again a steady uphill stretch with the last few hundred metres being relatively steep but negotiable for the most inexperienced of bikers with a little grit and determination.
