Itinerary description
More short side roads could be explored on the west flank of the western spur of Daheishan, an area of particular historical interest to Japanese with an overview of Nanshan Hill.
Waypoints
Y-junction
The best starting point is at the bridge to the south, at the end waypoint location. June cherries and apricots for sale along roads
Extensive Orchards
Looking west to Jingzhou Town. The Hill of Nanshan is faintly visible in the distance.
T-junction
The subsequent mountain biking segments can be skipped by turning left (south) down the paved 2-lane road and picking up a lower Waypoint.
End of pavement, rural scenery
At a large, overgrown compound from times gone by. The Japanese 2'nd army fortified this area just before the 1904 Nanshan engagement with Russia. also a small farm here with cattle and geese.
Rural Lanes, road conditions
A maze of varied, narrow zigzaggong lanes. Occasionally rough.
Mountain Bike Segment
Through orchards. Coarse to medium gravel on flats, changing into a narrow paved lane on downhill. Photo shows the western spur of Daheishan. This is within the general area where the Japanese 2'nd Army gathered and set up it's artillery before the assult of the Russian fortifications at Nanshan in 1904.

The previous mountain bike segments can be skipped entirely by taking this highway straight down from an upper Waypoint.
