Itinerary description
Waypoints
Start of waterfront walking trail
Seacoast rock formations are accessible towards the east along a boardwalk and hiking trail (another wikiloc covers that section by mountain bike.) This Waypoint is a popular wedding photo venue.
Bridge
Bridge crosses the entrance to a small fishing harbour. Lots of fish and workboat activity here.
Golden Pebble Beach.
The main tourist section of beach and resort activities. Sea fishing is popular outside the commercial section of the beach.
Forest hiking trails
Access point for hillside forest hiking trails. Photo shows road conditions towards the west, with some moderately hilly sections.
International Conference Center and Resort
Another hillside hiking trail access point.
Fishing coast
Traditional fishing villages and workshops/processing infrastructure, and residences. Fish smell is pervasive, huge spiders on their webs encountered (photo).
Exploring minor roads
A rough one-lane track connects nodes of fishing infrastructure along the coast. The track crossrs a very old narrow bridge. Some rough sections; a mountain bike is advisable.
Fishing coast
Various food crops in small plots along road, including fields of sunflowers.
Fishing infrastructure
Sky cables for loading and unloading small fish and cargo boats. Fish processing facilities. It appears the population was recently much higher, and development will inevitably proceed along this spectacular shoreline.
Bridge Viewpoint
Pullover at bridge with panoramic views of Kaifaqu Harbour entrance and sea cliffs, secluded beaches, cliff fishing. Undeveloped cliff edge walking trails can be found from parking area South of bridge.
Highway upgrades (Sept. 2022)
A new road to the waterfront supercedes an earlier wikiloc in this area; now it's fast smooth downhill with no hazards.
New beachfront road
This area is under rapid development, with new roads. Although the old village was disrupted. Traditional fishing activities are continuing alongside and benefit from improved infrastructure (see photo 4 of 4).
Along the waterfront, fishing activities
Following the newly completed waterfront access road.
Old village harbour
Photo shows a skycable system in operation to load and offload fish and small cargo boats. Yellow Sea shipping traffic visible in background.
New Development Zone
'Oriental Bay' development area (Sept. '22). Rapid buildup occurring in this area. The canals, parks, modern artistic bridges, and broad avenues, and other infrastructure were installed well in advance or high rise development.
Join the Dalian Greenway
Track ends at the intersection with the Dalian Greenway, a good quality walking and biking path. This is continuous to the west as far as the waterfront at Kaifaqu.
