Itinerary description
This is the PERFECT biking trail for beginners, while still offering a nice workout for those in shape.
It's located on the small Kalifront peninsula on the western part of the island of Rab. This whole area is a protected forest reserve, and all but the very entrance to it is barred to motor vehicles and dogs - only bikers and walkers allowed. You will be uninterrupted in your biking adventures!
Note: the peninsula is completely crisscrossed with interconnecting trails. So you can really pick and choose your way around.
-----
We parked our car a bit further into the Dundo forest reserve. You can safely start your ride further back, if you feel inclined. We took a turn to the south, intending to follow the path along the southern shore of the peninsula. The path is wide, consisting of fine gravel, dirt, and only occasionally asphalt. The peninsula slopes downward to the south, so you'll first be going down, then along the shore it's mixed, until you reach the Kalifront beach itself. As you ride, you'll be surrounded by trees on both sides. Be careful of the many, many scampering lizards that will undoubtedly be crossing your path all the time.
Unlike many other beaches on Rab which are sandy, Kalifront is a collection of smaller rocks & pebbles beaches. Crystal clear sea, with a view of the islands Cres, Lošinj and Krk. There is little to no shade on Kalifront beach, so have that in mind. Bring enough water!
Note that the shore is riddled with sea urchins and snakelocks anemone. Both are signs of clean seas, but children should be extra careful if venturing in deep waters.
After a lengthy break on the beach, we headed on the road, straight back for the place where we parked. It must be mentioned that the incline here is very, very beginner-friendly. It's very gentle, and often alternates with completely flat areas. You should be able to pull this ride back without pushing the bike at any point.
