Itinerary description
Follow the red dots.
The magnificent wilderness of Hossa is an excellent destination: the trails running along pine heaths invite you to hike and cycle, and the crystal-clear lakes to go canoeing and fishing. The rock paintings of Julma-Ölkky and Värikallio depict stories of shamanism, dating back thousands of years.
There are about 90 km of trails in the Hossa National Park. The trails, most of which are easy to travel on, run through the most handsome esker and lake scenery in Hossa. You can set off for a long hike by linking circle trails by means of the connecting trails. There are trails, destinations and accommodation that are accessible to all in the national park and close to the visitor centre.
In many places, the hiking and biking trails run along the same trails. Please note, that in summer, cycling is permitted only on four mountain biking routes. Hossa also provides trails that are accessible to all. Please be considerate to the others on the trail.
The Kokalmuksen kierros Trail takes you through the most splendid landscape in Hossa and provides excellent rest spots. On the Kokalmuksen kierros Trail, trekkers and cyclists travel along the same trail. The trail is accessible to all, all the way to Muikkupuro. There is no winter maintenance on the trail.
The trail goes, via Muikkupuro, to Hoiluansärkkä and, bypassing the reindeer sheds, to the Kokalmus lean-to shelter. From Kokalmus, the trail returns to the shore of Lake Pitkä-Hoilua. The trail is easy and mostly level, allowing hikers to focus on enjoying nature.
