Itinerary description
Big loop, mainly dirt and gravel.Route goes up valley of ElGranaillo, then the old road from Hortichuelas until the turn off to Cortijo Montano, then Higo Seco, Los Jimenez to Baranquete. The public path has been blocked in one section near Baranquete. Simply carry bike around the barrier. This section goes through greenhouse territory. The trail hits the coast next to a lagoon teeming with bird life. Following the coastline you pass the desalination plant that supplies water to the area. The ascent to Vela Blanca is quite steep. Then downhill to Monsul, Los Genoves, through San Jose before short ascent to climb close to the old watch tower -- this part is too steep to climb in the saddle. From the top of the climb 1 hour to Rodalquilar. Total time 6 hours, total length some 75 kms.
