Itinerary description

We leave at the bikecenter at 09:30 and exit Corralejo to the west. We ride along a dirt track, that leads us around a chain of volcanoes to Lajares. When we reach the last Volcanoe, we turn onto a narrow lava-rock path that brings us to a spectacular downhill to Lajares. We cross Lajares and enter a big desert area by the roundabout to El Cotillo. We follow a dried out riverbed that leads us on a small track with sometimes quite deep sand to a deep canyon with a little bridge over it.

After the canyon we leave the track and cut crosscountry by some old house ruins build of lava rock by the natives of the island to a bigger dirt road, that brings us with a fast downhill to the river of 'Esquinzo', the only "river" in the north, that has water all year round, although very little, even in rainy years.

We follow the riverbed to the West Coast, where we get on a quite bumpy dirt road that leads to El Cotillo. From there we take the new bike path back to Lajares and from Lajares we ride back to Corralejo on the main road.

First half of the trail is mostly on dirt tracks. A bit more technical climb and descent east of Hondo volcano on a narrow lava stone track. Head wind can be a challenge along the coast of El Cotillo and on the road from El Cotillo back to Corralejo. Nice beaches south of El Cotillo.
