The MTB Bike Tour at Premantura leads through a truly outstanding landscape. In our opinion, Cape Kamenjak is the most beautiful place in Istria. Unfortunately, some bays on a toll road gravel road are also accessible by car. By bike or in good condition on foot, however, the nature opens up properly and there are also remote places to discover.
The track is quite short at 14km. The many bays with bathing areas, the partly technically demanding trail (at least S1 in the MTB scale) and the indescribable safari halfway at the southernmost point of the cape make it possible to stretch the tour comfortably to a full day.
In Premantura there is also a bike rental, about which I can not say much, because we had our own bikes. A helmet is very useful and mountain bikes must be with this route also.
There is a signposted MTB trail, of which the track deviates slightly in only two places. For example, when driving, we drive counterclockwise, just behind the car toll for cars as the official way to a trail to escape the dust banners of the cars. For cyclists the Kamenjak is free. The signage of the road is unreasonably carried out in one direction only - counterclockwise. Of course, it does not matter with GPS and Track. We drove the route twice with different degrees of rotation - I would make it dependent on the position of the sun, otherwise it does not matter. With the sun in the back the turquoise blue sea looks even more beautiful.
At the Cape, it is worth taking a detour to the cliffs and into the alternative safari bar, which is definitely worth a visit with its thatched roofs that are sheltered from the bora wind (drinks and snacks). On the cliffs there is the possibility for daring and climbing to risk a few jumps into the sea.
Can be bathed on both shorelines. The western coast has a wild and romantic landscape, the eastern lures with long drawn-out stone beaches.
Incidentally, in Prematura, opposite the church, there is a small natural history museum for Kamenjak.
Have fun!
