Itinerary description
Mighty firebreak in Gójar village.
From Ogíjares village, mild warming up start along roads/trails up to Gójar, and then: [some sections have been paved in the last years, despite running along countryside] La Zapatera trail [up to here, trying to keep 130bpm at bay], Cortijo Maquirena climb up to Collado del Fraile (km8; water fountain), Cortijo Parejo, Boca de la Pescá approach (tough loose sand climb along the Gil López Ravine) [up to here, trying to maintain below 150bpm… with not much success and 190bpm peaks], connection to the La Espartera canal singletrack through the today diminished, today poor, pine forest, and at last the firebreak goal: today it is clean and well maintained; the downhill track consists of a straight narrow singletrack along the midst of the firebreak with a series of fun small surface water erosion breaking berms that allow to be jumped, down to the firebreak corner.
After the corner, the firebreak turns right into its steepest part, keeping an interesting and tricky permanent side slope, but in any case today it is clean and grippier than ever, so that the whole DH allows high speed instead of almost requiring slow-mo trials skills or slippery sections, like it used to be sometimes in the past.
The firebreak ends down in Collado del Fraile again (same water fountain; km13 now), and then back to Gójar and Ogíjares villages, still through some fun, tricky, almost-DH tracks mixed up with trails, paved or not (mind the poorly marked transition shortcut singletrack at km15.4; otherwise, round down and up the abandoned MX circuit here, leading to curvy downstream Porlid Ravine turns -km17).
