Itinerary description
The day began at the river Paiva with a foggy morning and valleys inundated by low clouds providing a scenery of rare mystical beauty that took my breath away. For a brief strange moment I was transported to the Himalayas. Only the snow was missing. Mountains, valleys, woods, rivers, old villages, cats, dogs, goats, birds, nice conversations with locals about wolves.
This is a great track but for me, not a MTB expert though in good physical condition for a 54 year old, it was a difficult one that took almost 9h to complete.
I had to deal with three steep ascents and one hiking trail along the river Paiva that made me drag my bike on foot for about 4,5 km (10% of the whole track). At about KM 30, before the second steep ascent begins, I had to cross a small river barefoot carrying my bike. Probably in the Summer, the water will be shallow enough for riding across it. At about KM 35 begins the difficult trail along the river with dense vegetation and a fenced field not thought for bikes. This part was a small adventure. And I also had to deal with a fall that could have gone ugly. Fortunately wearing a helmet improved my luck.
All in all, it was a magnificent sunny riding day, where the difficult moments only gave the track a stronger sense of adventure.
KM 7,5 - Technical steep ascent (1 km)
KM 30 - Steep ascent (1 km)
KM 34,5 - Hiking trail not suited for MBT (1 km)
KM 39,5 - Steep ascent (1,5 km)
