Itinerary description
2 hours of slog uphill followed by 45 minutes of terror downhill :)
The route up is simple from the parking area as shown. The app had a glitch and did not show the route clearly however when sorted it is a simple mixture of good gravel to poor gravel roads. The final few km are the steepest and roughest, but the summit is glorious.
On the way down the route is more severe as you omit the gravel tracks for very steep and technical mountain bike tracks. The first part was totally enjoyable and stunning views but the second section was exceptionally steep and I failed miserable due to lack of experience/skill, maybe my pressures were too high, the steepness and constantly having back wheel locked due to the loose surface and I ride a hardtail.
After going over the bars on a steep section (remember this is in the middle of nowhere) I put on my sensible head and walked the bike down the worst sections until I met the track again and then followed the gravel road to all but the last 750m.
Huge sense of achievement but also a little frustration that the downhill was a level too difficuly for me.
Trail from Carche passing through:
- Cueva de la Pólvora (0.9 km)
- Collado Pozo Nieve (14.7 km)
