Itinerary description

We left Sajama village at 3:15 in the morning and started hiking at 5:00am. The 4-wheel drive transport cost us 900bs. We paid another 500bs for the help of a guide. We were unable to get to the normal trailhead as there was too much snow (February is a wet month in Bolivia). We went up the bottom of the main valley until the slope started to get really steep. From there, we shifted our direction to our right in order to get up on top of the most accessible ridge line. Here, we were on the border with Chile. We followed the ridge line all the way to the obvious summit. Instead of coming down the same way, we maintained our direction and returned to the vehicle by following the rim in order to make the hike into a loop. The soft snow and jumbled boulders made the end of the hike the most difficult part. Not sure how different the hike would be without so much snow, probably harder, since the snow was hard packed for most of the hike.

After some time on the dirt road, we get into the main valley, what might have previously been the crater of the volcano.

Hola. Mejor comunicarse directamente con los guías de allá. Lamentablemente no tengo un número. El guía Ignacio Pacajes le podría ayudar. Quiza le puedes encontrar en Facebook.
