Itinerary description
A beautiful spring excursion. There are many old sheperd structures here and there. You can see that the place was alive some years before..
From athymolakos we climbed until the col next to malemou peak where are located old sheperd houses.
From there we climbed mavri peak. After that we climbed the northernmost peak feom ornio peaks region (there are 3-4 summits one next to the other).
We could see antikythere and kythera islands and also continental greece but unfortunately my camera is not that good. It is possible to see continental greece, it depends on the atmosphere conditions.
We continue to walk east until the spathi peak. From there the moved north-north west to kriariko peak. At the east face of kriariko there is a cave where there is ice all year long but it was so much snow that the entrance was under the snow so we will go there during fall.
From kriariko we descent to athymolakos. In general there is no water source and of there is snow it is very dangerous because in this (and elsewhere) part of the mountain there are many holes 10-100m (some are 1200m one of the deepest -known- in our home, earth) and you will take a big risk but it depends also on the conditions.
Almost 100% of the route is not on trail and in some (not many) parts it was very steep...
Anyway thats it enjoy!
