Betlemi hut

"Betlemi Hut" (Meteorology, Weather Station) is the tallest building in Georgia (3653 m). Its history dates back to the 20's of the last century, when it was decided to build a home for the first Georgian mountaineers who began the development of new routes to Kazbegi. In 1933, the wooden building was built at an altitude of 3653 meters and has been named in honor of Simon Japaridze, the Georgian climber. In 1941, on the same site, built stone building, which is a haven for climbers and playing the role of the weather station. In 1998, the shelter was named Betlemi Hut. Each year, it takes thousands of Georgian and foreign tourists who stay there for a night on the way to Mkinvartsveri peak (Mount Kazbegi).
