Itinerary description
Grykat e Hapëta is a massif in the Albanian Alps, part of the Zhaborret mountain range and represent the most beautiful and most magnificent express of wild beauty of Alps. Its highest peak reaches a height of 2,625 m, making it the highest peak in the range. The peak lies between the upper part of the Valbona Valley in the north and the Nikaj Valley in the south, continuing with the ridges of Zhaborre from the west and the pass of Droçë in the southeast, which separates it from Maja e Hekurave. Composed primarily of Triassic limestone and dolomite, it has the shape of a conical trunk with very steep slopes, forming cliffs 700-800 m deep. Around its core rise four other peaks at a height of over 2400 m.
If you want to climb in winter with snow and ice you have to consider everything form the meteorological condition and the condition of the snow and ice. Because you maybe will face big avalanches from walls 700-800m high. Also, before reaching the neck of the mountain, you have to climb a ice gutter that is very steep with 55-70% slopes, for this part if you have two technical ice axe better it is. From here to the neck of the mountain the terrain is very exposed so I better to be connected to your partner with a rope to secure each other. Mandatory to have Ice axe, crampons, helmet, rope. The view from the top of the mountain is magnificent.
